- Hard-surface and spline precision. Architectural geometry is mostly straight lines, exact dimensions, and repeated profiles. 3ds Max was built for that and still handles it more predictably than sculpting-first applications.
- Scene management at scale. Layers, XRefs, and proxies let one artist open a masterplan with millions of polygons without the file collapsing. Smaller tools tend to hit a ceiling here first.

The RAM line is the one people underestimate. A single high-detail interior with real vegetation and 8K textures will exceed 8 GB before the render starts.

The first is that motion is no longer a niche request. More than 40% of our commissions now include animation, a 360 tour, VR, or panoramas, either alongside stills or instead of them, and the share keeps rising. That demand is what exposed the render-time weakness described above.
The real-time race is basically over. D5 is our default for architectural animation because it is the cheapest route to that quality, and almost nobody in archviz is still using Unreal for this. But the model still gets built and rendered in 3ds Max first, because 3ds Max gives the better result. D5 is the animation and economics layer, not the modeling layer.
